The Man Box report, launched by Equimundo and Axe, is a new study on young men’s attitudes, behaviors, and understandings of manhood. The research was conducted with a representative, random sample of young men aged 18 to 30 in the United States, United Kingdom, and Mexico, and reveals that most men still feel pushed to live in the “Man Box” – a rigid construct of cultural ideas about male identity.
The norms of the Man Box are centered around seven pillars of what “Real Men” are supposed to be, which include:
- Self-sufficiency
- Acting tough
- Physical attractiveness
- Adhering to rigid gender roles
- Heterosexuality
- Sexual prowess
- Using aggression to resolve conflicts
