Beyond Gender Stereotypes, is a new curriculum for children of all genders aged 7–11 in England, which aims to promote gender equality and challenge limiting gender stereotypes. The project is led by Lifting Limits, a UK-based charity, as part of the Global Boyhood Initiative, which is coordinated by Equimundo: Center for Masculinities and Social Justice, a US-based non-profit organisation. This course has been formally accredited by the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Certification Service in the UK.
This course is for primary school staff who are not leading or teaching the BGS lesson plans.
Course Objectives:
- Understand how children learn social expectations based on gender and recognise how gender intersects with other key identities.
- Recognize gender stereotypes in wider society and how they limit access to opportunities, undermine diverse experiences, and impact mental health and wellbeing.
- Recognize gender stereotypes in school contexts, understand their impact, and reflect on the role of the teacher in reinforcing or challenging gender stereotypes.
