This interactive lesson plan helps middle school youth (ages 12–14) explore the impact of online messages on their understanding of masculinity and manhood. Through engaging vocabulary activities, group discussions, and real-life examples like the “Liver King” influencer story, the lesson encourages students to think critically about social media content that promotes narrow or harmful ideas of what it means to be a man.
Students are invited to reflect on how influencers, algorithms, and online spaces like the “manosphere” can shape boys’ self-esteem, body image, and attitudes toward gender roles. With a strong emphasis on building awareness and empathy, the lesson also supports youth in identifying positive representations of masculinity and learning how to respond to harmful content online.
