The International Men and Gender Equality Survey (IMAGES) is one of the most comprehensive household studies carried out around the world on men’s and women’s attitudes and practices on a wide variety of topics related to gender equality.

The IMAGES survey was conducted in Azerbaijan in 2016. This study aimed to understand men’s practices and attitudes as they relate to gender equality, gender roles and dynamics, parenting and caregiving, household relationship dynamics, health (including sexual and reproductive health and rights), and son preference. The study consisted of a quantitative survey and a qualitative component consisting of semi-structured interviews with respondents living in urban areas. The qualitative research focused on exploring men’s and women’s gender roles, beliefs, and perceptions in terms of sexual and reproductive health-related decision-making (including son preference), intimate partner violence, early marriage, and family planning.
