On October 10, 2018, the eve of the seventh official International Day of the Girl, Plan International and leading youth activists from around the globe hosted the second annual Global Girls’ Summit in Brussels, launching the Girls Get Equal global campaign.

The global Summit brings together 500 of the world’s leading change-makers in the arts, business, politics, entrepreneurship, science, sport and media to celebrate the potential of girls and young women, and to call for urgent action to support girls’ power everywhere.

Equimundo is proud to have made a commitment during the Summit, as an ally of Girls Get Equal, the new global campaign for increased investment in girls’ power, voice and leadership:

“At Equimundo, we know that everyone has a role to play in achieving equality, which is why we work tirelessly with our partners to promote gender justice by engaging men and boys in partnership with women and girls across 45 countries. As of 2017, we have reached nearly 10 million individuals with our work. We accept Plan International’s invitation to become an ally of Girls Get Equal and we commit to taking action through own means – including MenCare: A Global Fatherhood Campaign, which we co-coordinate with Sonke Gender Justice – to increase the power and leadership of girls everywhere. As Equimundo, we will advocate for a global goal of men and boys doing 50% of the world’s unpaid care work, recognizing it to be fundamental strategy to advancing gender equality and girls and women’s empowerment and leadership on a global scale. This is how Equimundo will support Girls to Get Equal.”

The event is in solidarity with the thousands of girls across the globe who are participating in a historic #GirlsTakeover of global leaders to mark the day. From Brussels to El Salvador, Plan International is supporting girls to become Presidents, Mayors, CEOs, Editors – to shine a spotlight on girls’ plight and power as change-makers.

Equimundo’s Kate Doyle presented at the Summit and shared the organization’s commitment to the Girls Get Equal campaign, alongside the United Nations, Girl Effect, Google, and many others from around the world.
