On March 12, the 62nd session of the Comisi\u00f3n de la Condici\u00f3n Jur\u00eddica y Social de la Mujer<\/a> (CSW) begins at the United Nations (UN) Headquarters in New York.<\/p>\n

Representatives of Member States, UN entities, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) will attend sessions on CSW\u2019s 2018 priority theme, \u201cChallenges and opportunities in achieving gender equality and the empowerment of rural women and girls.\u201d<\/p>\n

Equimundo President and CEO Gary Barker is moderating an expert panel on rural realities in the Nordics, organized by the Swedish Presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers. The region has been working together to promote gender equality for more than 40 years, driven by a shared vision of equal opportunities, rights, and obligations for all who live in the region, regardless of gender. Longstanding commitments to gender equality in the region have yielded significant results. However, the region has still not closed the gender gap entirely, and it continues to face challenges, including in extending and ensuring rights, opportunities, and access to equality to people living in rural areas and communities.<\/p>\n
