For more than 15 years, the organisation has worked to strengthen the teaching profession through a combination of field-based programmes, applied research, communication campaigns, and evidence-informed public policy. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As part of this work, Elige Educar is addressing a significant gender gap: men remain severely underrepresented in early childhood and primary teaching. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIn Chile, there are only nine male early childhood educators nationwide,\u201d Elige Educar tells Equimundo. \u201cAnd just <strong>21.5 percent of primary school<\/strong> teachers are men.\u201c<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Elige Educar believes that having more men in teaching gives children access to more diverse role models, challenges gender stereotypes from an early age, and helps children see teaching as a profession for everyone. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cOur work is not only about how we create pathways to attract more men into teaching,\u201d says a Elige Educar team member. \u201cIt is also about how we approach teacher retention, well-being, and support through a gendered lens across our programs.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"video-wrapper\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Solo 9 educadores de p\u00e1rvulos en prekinder y kinder en Chile | 24 Horas TVN Chile\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ZQQKtn3CmRs?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\nSince 2024, the Caring Masculinity Fund (CMF) has supported Elige Educar\u2019s <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Por M\u00e1s<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> project to understand and challenge the factors behind the low representation of men in teaching in Chile. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The funding has enabled Elige Educar to build the evidence, partnerships and public awareness needed to lay the groundwork for future policy and programs. CMF-backed research explored why so few men choose careers in early childhood and primary education, the barriers they face, and lessons from promising approaches in other countries.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Building on this evidence, Elige Educar also launched <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Los hombres educadores tambi\u00e9n<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a public campaign bringing visibility to an often-overlooked challenge. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe fund has also given us the opportunity to look beyond Chile and <strong>learn from international experience<\/strong>,\u201d says an Elige Educar team member. \u201cWe have been able to research promising initiatives from different countries and identify lessons that could inform policy and practice in Chile.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the support of the fund, Elige Educar were able to interview the nine male early childhood educators in Chile, bringing their experiences and challenges into focus. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cBeing able to hear these testimonies through rigorous research moved us deeply as a team,\u201d says Elige Educar. \u201cIt was their voices \u2014 together with the rest of the research we carried out \u2014 that led us to build a solid communications campaign and advocacy strategies, and to never lose sight of what these educators live through day after day.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>To learn more about Elige Educar, visit their website below:<\/h4>\n<p><a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/eligeeducar.cl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.eligeeducar.cl<\/a><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Elige Educar is a Chilean initiative with a mission to ensure that every student in Chile has access to excellent teachers and early childhood educators.
